Po-Zu is an ethical shoe company which has recently started selling its shoes online. Po-Zu aims to produce shoes as environmentally-friendly as possible and carries a strict non-toxic policy to ensure workers' safety. Nearly all their industrial waste is recycled, and over 40% of their electricity derives from renewable energy.
Because Po-zu only use natural material, their workers are not exposed to any toxic substances while producing or handling the products. Po-Zu is certified by the Ethical Company Organization as a company upholding human rights, animal welfare and the environment.
Po-zu has pledged to donate 3% from every online sale to one of its three charity partners, the recipient being chosen by the customer.
Po-Zu’s Founder and CEO, Sven Segal, won the Entrepreneur of the Year 2012 at the People and Environment Achievement Awards. The judges were impressed that Sven had come up with a sustainable idea and made it work, and that his designs have potential for large scale production. The fact that Po-Zu doesn’t use glue in its shoes (thanks to their particular construction) is a positive feature that could be implemented by other footwear producers with no significant cost increase.
Po-Zu has deliberately not patented its core designs or production methods so that other manufacturers can follow its sustainable vision and apply those ideas to benefit a wider audience and the planet.
