Cerro Blanco Protected ForestThe Cerro Blanco Protected Forest consists of 15,019 acres (6,078 hectares) of dry tropical forest on the outskirts of Guayaquil. This is one of the last remaining Ecuadorian dry forests which are considered to be in critical danger of extinction. Due to the close proximity to the city the forest is threatened by expanding squatter settlements, illegal hunting for commercial and subsistence use, tree cutting of secondary hardwood trees and forest fires caused mainly by hunters.
