We’re thrilled to announce that our partner AESMO have successfully purchased the second plot of land in Honduras’ Trifinio region using funds raised from our Spring Appeal.

The 27-hectare property – of which 24 hectares was WLT funded – sits within the existing Guisayote Biological Reserve and neighbours other areas previously protected with past WLT support.

This exciting new land purchase comes just a few months after AESMO secured the first property funded by our spring appeal in the nearby Cerro Negro watershed.

Now, two properties to be funded through the appeal have been secured – a fantastic achievement and proof of the swift impact your support has for conservation.

Defending a forest under threat

As part of our Save the Cloud Forests of Honduras appeal, WLT supporters raised £443,540 to safeguard 91 hectares (225 acres) of vital and vulnerable forest in Honduras.

The lush forests in the area are already extremely fragmented and under serious threat of further deforestation for coffee farming and cattle pasture. But now more land has been protected from this fate.

The land secured through the appeal funding so far will make a huge difference for both wildlife and local people – protecting the homes of species like the Cerro Pital Salamander (Bolitoglossa synoria) and Golden Cheeked Warbler (Setophaga chrysoparia), as well as preserving essential clean water for surrounding rural communities.

We are ever grateful for what WLT supporters have made possible in Honduras and we’re excited to share further updates with you as the project continues to progress.
