Chaco/Pantanal Project, Paraguay:

Saving the Paraguayan Dry-Chaco

The World Land Trust has funded a reserve in Paraguay's dry savanna grassland to protect rare mammals and raise awareness of the diversity of wildlife and the threats to the habitat.

Dry Chaco
The Vegetation of the Dry Chaco

Dry-Chaco

The Dry Chaco, found in western Paraguay, is a dry savannah and grassland habitat and supports a wide range of biodiversity including more than 100 species of reptiles, birds such as Greater Rhea, Chaco Chacalaca, Chaco Blue-fronted Amazon, Guira Cuckoo, Brushland Tinamou, and mammals such as the Chaco Peccary, Chacoan Mara, Lowland Tapir, Maned Wolf, Giant Anteater, Crab-eating Fox, and 8 species of armadillo.

GUYRA have identified an 19,700 acres (8,000 ha) area of land, nearby the Teniente Encizo National Park, which is of great conservation importance because it contains the only lagoon in the vicinity and it is therefore very important for wildlife and migrating birds. Negotiations for this land are currently taking place.
