Not just forest and wildlife, but also this Matsés indigenous tribe will be protected by the new National Reserve in Peru.
1,039,390 acres of pristine rainforest in the Amazon lowlands of Peru has been saved, thanks to World Land Trust-US (WLT-US) and Peruvian partner CEDIA (Center for the Development of the Indigenous Amazonians). The Matsés National Reserve was declared by the Peruvian government 27th of August and will protect not just wildlife but also the isolated Matsés indigenous Amazon tribe fighting to preserve their ancient way of life.
WLT-US aims to save a further 530,000 acres of rainforest in a nearby region of Peru and support from individual donors is vital: For more information and to help, visit the website of WLT-US.
At the WLT we were faced with a dilemma; our supporters love the Buy an Acre concept but the urgent need to save habitats that cost considerably more than £50 is also pressing. We believe we've come up with a solution that will please everyone.
We have created a new Buy an Acre fund to raise funds for projects where £50 still saves One Acre, and to save land where it costs more than £50 an acre we have the WLT Action Fund, saving land through urgent appeals and unearmarked donations
For more details, see WLT's projects are changing: Introducing the Buy an Acre Fund
We are enormously grateful for the insightful comments and suggestions you left in the questionnaire on the concept of saving acres. If you included your email address we will respond to you in due course, and we will be compiling a summary of the feedback for the website.
