The Yellow Striped Poison Frog is a species from the Poison dart frog family and is named for its distinctive yellow colouration and poison, of which several of its relatives have been used to coat darts with poison for hunting. It is generally found on the western side of the eastern Andes.

Behaviour

The Yellow Striped Poison Frog is a diurnal species, which is known to lay its eggs on the ground and carry the tadpoles to the water only after they hatch.

Habitat

The Yellow Striped Poison Frog lives in forests of varying humidity and rainfall within its range, it has also been known to be able to survive on some disturbed habitats like uncleared banana plantations.

Threats and Conservation

The IUCN has classified the Yellow Striped Poison Frog as being of Least Concern on the Red List, and determined that the population is stable. It has suffered from the pet trade, but this has stopped since it was given a CITES listing.
