Known as oriental hawthorn, Crataegus orientalis is a shrub or small tree associated with forest margins, open slopes, and scrublands.

Behaviour

The plant produces flowers from May to June which are small, white, and sometimes pink (largely in cultivars). Its pulpy fruits range in colour from orange to various shades of red and appear between June and October.

Habitat and range

The plant grows primarily in the temperate biome and is native to Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Sicilia, Transcaucasia, Turkey, and Yugoslavia.
