Help us connect Brazil’s Atlantic Forest

DONATE NOW

This spring, the Atlantic Forest needs your help

Donate to our spring appeal and help us raise £197,260 to secure 180 hectares (444 acres) of highly threatened land in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest, before it’s lost to the threats of deforestation and development.

The Atlantic Forest is one of the world’s top biodiversity hotspots and home to hundreds of endangered species, but centuries of deforestation have left it severely threatened. Only 12% of the original Atlantic Forest is left in Brazil, and what survives is extremely fragmented. It is essential that we connect the isolated patches that remain.

By supporting our Spring Appeal, you will allow our partner Reserva Ecológica de Guapiaçu (REGUA) to purchase a crucial neighbouring property and expand their existing reserve in the Guapiaçu watershed, connecting more fragmented forest and permanently protecting it from an uncertain fate. The project will also fund a ranger for one year to patrol the reserve.

Plus, a generous private donor has provided funds which will match donations up to £197,260. This means gifts to the appeal will be doubled in value, and a £25 donation from you could be matched to make a £50 contribution overall. By donating, your support will go twice as far towards our fundraising target.

In a snapshot, your donation will:

● Enable our partner to expand the REGUA reserve in Brazil’s Guapiaçu valley by 180 ha (444 acres).

● Help to connect vulnerable forest fragments.

● Enable the employment of a ranger for one year.

● Protect the homes of hundreds of threatened species, many of which exist only in Brazil. Among these are the Critically Endangered Southern Muriqui (Brachyteles arachnoides), White-necked Hawk (Buteogallus lacernulatus) and Brazilian Button Frog (Cycloramphus brasiliensis).

● Help to safeguard the Guapiaçu watershed, an essential area that provides water for over 2 million people in parts of Rio de Janeiro.
