Big Match Fortnight is back and this year your donations will be tripled in value.
Triple your impact and help us raise £2,188,483 so our partner Fundación Biodiversa Colombia (FBC) can save 1,495 hectares (3,694 acres) of highly threatened land before it’s lost forever to deforestation.
Colombia’s Middle Magdalena Valley is one of the country’s most biodiverse regions, home to irreplaceable forests, wetlands and wildlife. But more than 85% of ancient forest has already been destroyed in the last 50 years and further land continues to be cleared for cattle and buffalo ranching. By supporting our autumn appeal, you can help to save this remarkable landscape.
Your donations will enable FBC to expand their existing El Silencio reserve through the purchase of two key neighbouring properties, permanently protecting crucial habitat while there’s still time.
Plus, if you donate to the appeal during our Big Match Fortnight (1 – 15 October), your generous gift will be tripled in value. That means a £25 donation from you could be matched to make a £75 contribution overall, tripling your impact towards our £2.2 million fundraising target.
In a snapshot, your donation will:
- Enable FBC to expand their El Silencio reserve by 1,495 hectares (3,694 acres).
- Fund the employment of two rangers to protect and patrol the land for the next three years.
- Safeguard the Barbacoas lake and the livelihoods of local fishing communities from the imminent threat of an encroaching man-made canal.
- Protect Critically Endangered species, including the Brown Spider Monkey (Ateles hybridus), Blue-billed Curassow (Crax alberti) and Magdalena River Turtle (Podocnemis lewyana). Many of the species in this region exist nowhere else in the world.
- Bring degraded areas of land under protection and begin the process of restoration.
It’s never been more important to protect the habitat that remains in this region. Together we can make a huge difference to its future.
