Blake Perkins and Vanessa Graham from Leeds University are raising funds for World Land Trust (WLT) by hitchhiking from Leeds to Marrakech, Morocco.

On 19 June 2015, the pair will be among 14 student teams setting out from Leeds. The challenge for the students is to reach north-west Africa without spending any money in order to raise funds for charity. The fundraising effort is part of Leeds University’s Raise and Give society (Rag).

Blake spoke about why he chose to support WLT: “Since I found WLT I knew that they were the charity I wanted to back, with such great conservation work around the world. As a biology student this is of special interest to me, but the preservation of biodiversity should be very important for everyone.”

This sponsored hitchhike follows a similar event earlier in 2015, during which two groups of Leeds students raised more than £1,000 by hitchhiking to Belgium in 36 hours.

More information

So far Blake and Vanessa have raised £185 for WLT. Money raised from the hitchhike will go towards WLT’s Action Fund, providing money to conservation areas where it is most urgently needed.
