Conservation and Communications Manager (full-time)
Some overseas travel Located in Suffolk/London
The World Land Trust (WLT), one of the UK’s leading environmental charities, is looking for a graduate with a strong interest in conservation and excellent communication skills to become Conservation and Comunications Manager.
After a suitable induction period the successful candidate will take over much of the day-to-day communication with our major donors. This requires a working knowledge of all our land purchase and carbon-balancing projects as well as an understanding of what we have to offer key supporters.
In addition to experience in some aspect of conservation, ecology and/or natural history you must be numerate, literate, well-organised, highly motivated, a self-starter and presentable. You need to be confident without being over-confident and must possess an instinctive understanding of how to deal with busy and influential people.
The position will require you to spend approximately three days a week in Suffolk and two days a week in London. You will also go on an annual trip to visit one of our overseas projects in order that you can see our work first hand. You will report direct to our Head of Communications and will also work closely with our CEO.
About the World Land Trust
WLT is an international conservation charity based in Halesworth, Suffolk. Founded in 1989 it has been working to preserve the world's most biologically important and threatened lands, and has helped purchase and protect over 375,000 acres of habitats rich in wildlife, in Asia, Central and South America and the UK. Our patrons are Sir David Attenborough and David Gower.
The position
We have a very personal relationship with all our donors but, in particular, with those who make large gifts, sponsor us and/or participate in one of our carbon balancing programmes. We are in touch with these major supporters on a regular basis and your primary role is to assist the Head of Communications to co-ordinate and manage such contact as agreed in your work programme.
It will be an extremely varied job. Three days a week it will be office based – helping to plan and implement our strategy. In practical terms this will mean writing letters, reports and emails as well as making telephone calls. There will be administrative work including keeping our records up to date, preparing budgets and monitoring our efforts. The rest of the week will involve meetings with private individuals and corporate supporters to discuss their needs or some other aspect of our work. Most of these meetings take place in London where we maintain a small office. You will also help with our events calendar.
The position would be full time (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm), although may require working outside general office hours on occasion, when time off in lieu can be taken. Annual leave will be 20 days p.a. exclusive of public holidays.
Applicants must be eligible to work within the EU.
Starting Salary: Initial salary will be in the region of £18,000
Location
The successful candidate does not necessarily need to re-locate to Suffolk. However, he or she must be willing to spend three full days and two nights a week in Halesworth.
To Apply:
The closing date for applications will be 3rd July 2009. Those selected for interview will be notified by 10th July 2009 (by email), with interviews to be held mid July.
