The World Land Trust is an international conservation charity, working to protect threatened habitats around the world. The Restoration Ecology Team manages and develops activities relating to ecological restoration and carbon sequestration within WLT projects. The Carbon Programme Officer's role is to assist in the development and management of the Carbon Balanced programme.

The successful applicant will have:
A bachelors degree (or equivalent) or higher in a relevant science subject;
Experience in project management, ideally related to environmental issues;
Confidence with mathematics, and good attention to detail;
Background knowledge on issues surrounding climate change, carbon sequestration and the voluntary offset market;
Excellent knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Office Suite (experience of web, graphics and GIS computer packages would be an advantage);
Excellent communication skills, spoken and written English, particularly for scientific issues.
The position would be full time (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm), although may require working outside general office hours on occasion, when time off in lieu can be taken. The position will be based in the World Land Trust's offices in Halesworth, Suffolk, although some travel within the UK will be necessary. Annual leave will be 20 days p.a. exclusive of public holidays.

Starting Salary: £13,000 p.a. (subject to experience)

Job Purpose
The role of the Carbon Programme Officer is to assist the other members of the Restoration Ecology Team to develop and manage the WLT’s Restoration Ecology activities. The successful candidate will be the primary point of contact for all carbon related enquiries and will be in charge of the management of the Carbon Balanced programme.
Main Activities
Primary point of contact for all carbon related enquiries from the general public, corporates, associated organisations and WLT staff members;
Management of the WLT's Carbon Balanced programme.
Duties and responsibilities
Carbon Balanced Management:
Administration and development of the Carbon Balanced programme;
Calculation of Carbon Balanced carbon audits for corporate sponsors making sure the conversion figures and procedures used in the audit calculation process are up to date;
Follow up for all SME Carbon Balanced companies;
Revision of the Carbon Balanced website/calculator content and promotional materials e.g. leaflets, donation forms etc as and when appropriate;
Management of own/personal and Carbon Balanced general administrative work;
Attendance at public and corporate events to represent WLT’s Carbon Balanced programme, giving presentations as and when appropriate;
Attendance at meetings to provide carbon related informational support to other WLT staff;
Assist with the development of the Restoration Ecology/Carbon Balanced programme including future project diversification and funding acquisition.
Information Management:
Maintain complete records on all Carbon Balanced corporates, liaising with the corporate development team as appropriate;
Maintain records on carbon income and corresponding offset commitments;
Organise communications/articles/papers relating to the Carbon Balanced programme.
Corporate Donations Allocation:
Liaising with the corporate development team, donations team and projects team to allocate funds from Carbon Balanced companies and other corporate supporters to specific projects;
Keeping up to date records of all allocations;
Acting as the primary point of contact for all enquiries into donation allocations from corporate supporters and Carbon Balanced companies.
Research:
Research the legislation, media and science surrounding the issues of climate change and offset markets;
Attend conventions, conferences and exhibitions as appropriate to report information and represent WLT;
Provide scientific information to WLT staff members and Trustees, for the purpose of project development, marketing and fundraising;
Respond to, and follow up, any ideas put forward relating to climate change and carbon sequestration (as suggested by the CEO, Trustees, staff, public, etc.).
The position is full-time, based in the World Land Trust's offices in Halesworth, Suffolk, although travel within the UK will be necessary, and possibly some overseas travel may be required. From time to time you will be asked to assist with general office duties, in situations of heavy workload, staff sickness or holidays. You will also be asked to work outside general office hours on occasion, when time off in lieu can be taken.
