Team Aqua: Sailing for Conservation
The professional sailing team, Team Aqua, who compete internationally at a top level, have committed to doing their bit to promote ecological sustainability by hoisting World Land Trust sails throughout their 2008 campaign.
The WLT sails were displayed for the first time on 28th June 2008 in Cowes, Isle of Wight, at one of the largest and most famous Yachting races: the Round the Island Race. At this event many people were intrigued by the fact that an Extreme 40 Catamaran was displaying the logo of a nature conservation charity on its sails, rather than a commercial sponsor, and we hope that seeing the WLT logo will encourage people to find out more about the Trust and its work. Carbon Balanced"Team Aqua are passionate about sailing and we want to obtain good results; but our goal is also to promote ecological sustainability around the world and raise funds for the World Land Trust.”
Chris Bake, Team Aqua owner In addition to helping raise awareness of the WLT's important conservation work, Team Aqua have also ensured their sailing campaign for 2008 is Carbon Balanced through the WLT. Their boat is fuelled by solely the power of the wind and sea, but there are still areas of their campaign that have impacts on the environment, such as the crew’s travel to and from the races and running the trusty motor boat that follows the boat during the races.
