Payroll Giving and Self Assessment Giving
Give to the WLT regularly through Payroll Giving or donate a tax refund to WLT with Self Assessment Giving.
Payroll Giving
What is Payroll Giving?
Payroll Giving is a way of making regular donations to charity. It allows you to have a donation to the World Land Trust deducted straight from your gross salary. You can give as much as you like and donations are tax free.
As the donation is taken off the monthly wage packet before tax, this means a donation of £10 will only cost the standard rate tax payer £8.00, giving them tax relief of £2. This is an especially efficient way of donating for higher rate tax payers who will receive a tax relief of £4 on a £10 donation.
Fifty people donating £10 a month for six months would raise £6,000. This is enough to buy a whole rainforest nature reserve. For company donations, the reserve could even be named after the company.
Information for employers
It is very simple to set up and run. Employers will need to sign up with an HMRC approved Payroll Giving Agency (PGA). Once your employees have signed a mandate to say how much and to which charity they would like to give, you then send the monthly deductions to the PGA.
The PGA will be able to give you advice on how to promote Payroll Giving. You may also like to visit http://www.payrollgivingcentre.org.uk/employers.htm where you will find lots of information for employers looking into setting up Payroll Giving for their staff. The Payroll Giving Centre website is funded by HM Government and administered by the Institute of Fundraising.
Information for employees
You will be asked to complete a mandate stating how much of your income you wish to donate and to which charity.
If you are not employed you may be able to make donations through Pension Giving, out of a pension from a former employer (Payroll Giving is not available from a state pension).

Self Assessment Giving
What is Self Assessment Giving?
Self Assessment Giving is an easy way to donate a tax refund direct to the charity of your choice without the charity having to make a claim. If you complete a Self Assessment tax return and are entitled to a tax refund, you can choose to have all or part of the repayment sent directly to a charity of your choice. It is called Self Assessment Giving or SA Donate.
How to choose a charity
Self Assessment tax return packs are sent out by HMRC and include a form entitled “Giving your tax repayment to charity”. The form can also be downloaded from the HMRC website. A charity can also be selected as part of the HMRC Self Assessment Online service.
Enter the charity reference code GA D7 4D G to donate your tax repayment due to the World Land Trust.
Adding Gift Aid to the donation
If you select to add Gift Aid to your tax refund donation, WLT can claim back 25p for each pound of tax refund donated.
