Save Rainforest – Save Wildlife Habitats

15 Ways You Can Help Save Rainforest and Other Threatened Wildlife Habitats

Tropical rainforest in Ecuador

Unlike money, we cannot just borrow more wilderness; once it's gone it's gone — there is no way of bailing out rainforests! But YOU can make a difference.

Here are 15 ways you can help, ranging from sending free ecards to becoming a corporate supporter - we are sure you will find something that suits you.

1. Save rainforest for free with a click of your mouse

Search the web with everyclick here

...when you search the web with everyclick.com

Everyclick.com is an internet search engine with a big difference - it donates half its revenues to charity! It does not cost the WLT, or you, a penny. To support World Land Trust every time you search the web, just make www.everyclick.com/uk/worldlandtrust your home page and make sure you use it whenever you search the web.

Remember to tell your friends to use everyclick.com too. You can do this on www.everyclick.com/uk/myeveryclick/nomfriends

The Rainforest Site: Help preserve endangered land with one click.

Help Preserve Nature. One click at a time

...through the Rainforest Site and Ecology Fund

Bookmark the Rainforest Site and Ecology Fund websites and visit every day. By clicking on the 'Save Land' buttons, advertisers on the sites will pay for wilderness land in WLT's project areas to be saved - you pay nothing.

Recycle your old Inkjet and Laser Toner and help save wilderness

2. Recycle your empty printer cartridges and support the WLT

If you live in the UK you can support the WLT by donating your empty Inkjet and Toner cartridges. Simply complete this form for free cartridge collection.

3. If you like what we do - tell your friends about us

If you feel our work is important, please tell others about us. The more supporters we have, the more land we are able to save. Word of mouth is one of the most effective ways of marketing - and it's completely free! Here are some suggestions on how to help spread the word:

Send free ecards here
  • Send a Wildlife eCard. ECards are the perfect paperless alternative to traditional cards and an excellent way of letting others know about the World Land Trust.
  • Join or link to WLT from your social networking profiles. Check out WLT's profiles on Care2, Facebook, MySpace and Twitter and join our online communities.
  • If you have your own website, create link to the World Land Trust. You will not only help generate traffic to our site directly, but by increasing our link popularity, the WLT will improve its ranking in the search engines. The better the ranking, the more traffic and donations we will get and the more rainforest we will be able to save.

You don't have to link to our start page either; why not link to this page as a way of letting others know how they can help save wildlife habitats.

  • Add a WLT link to your email signature. Here is an example:

Take positive action today: £50 saves one acre of
rainforest and other wildlife habitat in a REAL place, FOREVER.

eBay for charity

5. Raise money when you sell on eBay

You can support us when you sell items on eBay. All you need to do is select the World Land Trust as the benefiting charity and for each item successfully sold on eBay, a percentage of the price (as chosen by you) is directed to WLT. The listed charity items will appear with an “eBay for charity icon” along with the WLT logo.

Go to eBay for Charity to find out more.

6. Fundraise to help save wildlife habitats

Schools and youth clubs can save wildlife habitats by undertaking fundraising activities for the Trust. And there's a bonus: Not only will you help save rainforest, your school gets a place in the prestigious WLT Fundraising Hall of Fame. For some great fundraising ideas see the Top 20 tips on raising funds.

Raising funds online

Carbon balanced - offset your carbon and save rainforest trees

7. Balance your carbon emissions and save rainforest

Calculate the carbon dioxide emissions produced by your everyday activities at CarbonBalanced.org, which also contains tips on how to reduce your emissions. You can then offset the carbon produced by unavoidable activities such as the daily commute, by making a donation to save rainforest trees, which help reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere.

Animals in WLT supported reserves

8. Save rainforest when you earn with payroll giving (UK only)

Here's an easy way to support wildlife conservation: If the company you work for runs a Payroll Giving programme, you can have a donation to the World Land Trust deducted straight from your gross salary. You can give as much as you like and donations are tax free.

If your company does not yet run a Payroll Giving programme, did you know that the Government is offering one off grants of up to £500 to encourage businesses with less than 500 employees to participate? And that's not all, the government will also match the donations of each employee for six months from the time of their first donation. As the donation is taken off the monthly wage packet before tax, this means a donation of £10 will only cost the standard rate employee £7.80 while the charity will receive a whopping £20.00.

Persuade your employer to set up a Payroll Giving programme, and persuade your colleagues to donate to the World Land Trust. Fifty people donating £10 a month for six months would raise £6000. This is enough to buy a whole rainforest nature reserve – and it could even be named after the company.

For further information or help contact the World Land Trust. More information about Payroll Giving in the UK, including a list of Payroll Giving agencies, can be found on the HM Revenue & Customs website: www.hmrc.gov.uk/payrollgiving.

9. Become a customer of a WLT corporate supporter and save rainforest

Many of the Trust's corporate supporters make donations to the WLT when supporters become their customers. For more information on our corporate supporters and how they help the Trust, see our Corporate Supporters pages.

10. Make WLT your partner - or become a corporate supporter

The most effective way you can support the World Land Trust is by choosing to become a WLT partner. Partners pledge to donate £5 a month or more for at least a year. This helps us plan ahead, knowing that we have a secure income. One week per month, instead of that bottle of wine, save a piece of wildlife habitat instead! Business and organisations can support the WLT - see our Corporate Supporters page for more information.

Save an acre of rainforest and get a Certificate that shows how much you have saved

Imagine 'owning' a piece of unique wilderness, with the multitude of wildlife it supports. With your help we can protect these biologically important areas and you can proudly display your Certificate of Appreciation, knowing that you have made a difference.
