Pennies for Puro
Lynette Steele-Coon, explains how the children were inspired to raise money by the WLT webcam:
“Our 1st and 2nd graders have thoroughly enjoyed watching World Land Trust Puro Webcam in Ecuador. We used it everyday for 9 weeks when we were studying South America and it really brought the rainforest right into our classroom. The children got so excited to see the coatis “invade” the feeding station and they especially loved it when the babies came or a big adult pressed its nose right up against the camera.
We also used Google Earth to come right down to the location and we toured the site using the virtual tour you have on the website – some of the kids even said it made them dizzy! As a teacher/librarian, I was able to use your website and the suggested links and videos for my daily lessons, too.
The children decided to help the rainforest by collecting “Pennies for Puro”. They collected $29.52 in pennies, which they donated to Fundación Jocotoco.
Once again, thank you for providing us with this valuable and fun resource. Whatever extra effort it takes to maintain this live feed was worth it if you could see the faces of our children as they watched the wildlife every day - our kids will never forget it.”
