Year 3 Rainforest Drinks and Art Auction

Mrs McDonnell, Head of Year 3, wrote to us to tell us how they raised a fantastic £650 toward the World Land Trust Buy an Acre fund from their fundraising event:

“Prior to the actual event each class in Year Three worked on their own individual art project using reclaimed wood and bottle tops. Two weeks before the event, during Mathematics, children carried out several surveys within the school and drew up tally charts and graphs representing their results.  In groups they collected data on the favourite fruits of the children within the school and then created their own 'Rainforest drinks' using real fruit. The children carried out a survey within class and created graphs from the data to show the children's favourite drinks.  Children also created labels and names for their drinks."

"The P.E. department also worked for several weeks during their P.E. lessons creating a dance using musical instruments that told the story of the destruction of the rainforests. On the day of the Year Three production the parents were invited to the school to watch the performance of the children dancing; singing; and acting."

After the performance Mrs McDonnell gave a presentation on WLT explaining that the money raised would be used for land purchase. The students then presented their work including the results of their survey and their works of art, which were then auctioned to the parents. The children's 'Rainforest Drinks' were also sold to the parents.
