A Donation of £50 Saves One Acre

A donation of £50 saves one acre of rainforest, an area containing over 150 trees and many more endangered species that live on and in them. One acre is equivalent to:

  • 200 parked cars
  • about a third of a football (soccer) field, which is between 90 and 120 m (100 and 130 yard) long and between 45 and 90 m (50 and 100 yard) wide (2.67 acres)
  • three quarters of an American football field, which is 160 feet (48.5 m) wide and 360 feet (109.1 m) long (1.32 acres)

How Big are the reserves World Land Trust has helped protect?

Belize

Rio Bravo Conservation & Management Area, which covers 4% of the total area of Belize, is approximately 260,000 acres (105,200 hectares). This is equivalent to:

  • 2/3 size of Greater London
  • The size of Hong Kong
  • Twice the size of Singapore

Patagonia

Ranch of Hopes Wildlife Refuge covers 15,000 acres (6,070 hectares). This is:

  • roughly the same size as Guernsey
  • 1/3 of Washington DC

Ecuador

The Ecuador reserves cover 18,000 acres (7,280 hectares). That is an area that is:

  • more than 20 times larger than London's Hampstead Heath
  • more than 20 times larger than New York City's Central Park

For individual reserve sizes in Ecuador, see Ecuador Reserves pages.

In total, the WLT has helped purchase and protect over 350,000 acres – an area equivalent to the size of Bedfordshire or twice size of Isle of Man.
