WLT Supporters awarded 'Lender of the Year' for 4th year running
Allied Irish Bank "Adds more green" by supporting World Land Trust

Wednesday, 25 July 2007:

WLT Supporters awarded 'Lender of the Year' for 4th year running

Stafford Railway is a small local Building Society which lends throughout England and Wales. It has been awarded the "Lender of the Year" accolade by What Mortgage? magazine four times: 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. There are over 100 mortgage lenders big and small in this country all competing for custom, and it is difficult to make a choice. But if a lender or adviser boasts a What Mortgage award then it is a leader in its field. When making their decision this year What Mortgage chose to award lenders that provided the most competitive Standard Variable rate over the past five years and once again Stafford Railway Building Society emerged top lender for the fourth year in a row. When announcing the winner in April, they said "this proves that you don't have to be big to be best as the SRBS has just one branch".

The Allied Irish Bank (AIB) has promised to donate at least €500,000 to conservation projects at home and abroad through a new "Add More Green Fund". For every customer who opts to receive their statements online using the bank's new eStatement service, AIB will donate €5 to the fund. Half of this will go to the World Land Trust and the other half to Coillte, a forestry and forest products company which manages 445,000 hectares of Ireland's State owned forests.

Sir David Attenborough, Patron of the World Land Trust said:
"The World Land Trust gives absolutely everyone an opportunity to get involved and take personal responsibility for protecting the future of our environment in a really positive way. I welcome AIB's decision to encourage customers to be more environmentally conscious and we are very pleased to have them as a new supporter of the Trust."

Donal Forde, Managing Director, AIB Bank, Republic of Ireland, said:
"Not only are people in Ireland keen to do what they can to protect the environment they also think their bank should do the same. 79% said they would like their bank to promote environmentally responsible initiatives.

We intend to continue to rise to that challenge by constantly finding more ways to incorporate good environmental practice into our core values and the way we do business."
