Narupa Reserve

Target size: 500 ha (1,235 acres)
Current size, May 2007: 320 ha (790 acers)

Narupa is Fundación Jocotoco's eighth habitat reserve, consisting of tropical forest and located in the Napo Province. This area protects some of the remaining foothill forest at an altitude of 1100m on the east slope of the Andes, just above the Amazon lowlands.

The reserve is situated close to the Río Hollin, between the volcanoes Antisana and Sumaco. There is a plan to provide visitor facilities there in the future, and to increase the area and altitudinal range of the protected land.

Wildlife at Narupa

The area is endemic-rich and home to several globally threatened bird species, in particular the Military Macaw and Coppery-chested Jacamar.

Fundación Jocotoco reserves:

| Buenaventura | Jorupe | Narupa | Río Canandé | Tapichalaca | Utuana | Yanacocha | Yunguilla |
