Current Active Projects:

Urgent Land Purchase Projects

Brazil: REGUA Project

Wetland on the REGUA reserve. Read more about this reserve here.

The World Land Trust played an important part in establishing a reserve in the Atlantic rainforest of Brazil in the year 2000. The Atlantic rainforest is one of the most important eco-regions in the world, but only 7% of the original area remains, and it is becoming increasingly fragmented. The Trust is therefore raising funds for Reserva Ecologica De Guapi Assu (REGUA) in order to increase the reserve and protect the Atlantic rainforest against further losses.

Ecuador: Tropical Forest Project

Tapichalaca Reserve. Read more about the tropical forest project in Ecuador here.

The Tropical Forest project helps safeguard Ecuador's diverse wildlife in an area where over 80% of the tropical rainforests have already been destroyed, leaving many species globally threatened. The project protects critically important habitats for many of Ecuador's rarest bird species, as well as a wide variety of other animals such as Jaguar and Howler Monkey. There are currently seven reserves, all managed with the support and involvement of local communities.

India: Wild Lands Elephant Corridor Project

Indian elephant. Read more about the elephant corridor here.

The Wild Lands Elephant Corridor project helps save an important population of Indian elephants by preventing forest fragmentation which seriously threaten the elephants survival. The corridor links together two wildlife reserves and not only provides a safe passage for elephants, but also a haven for other wildlife.

The Reef & Mangrove Appeal assists the recovery of mangroves and restoration of coral reefs, both of which are incredibly diverse ecosystems with important roles in protecting the coasts against the forces of the sea. Two projects are currently under way: Mangrove replanting in the Philippines and coral replanting and restoration in India.

Paraguay: Chaco/Pantanal Project

San Rafael Reserve. Read more about the Chaco/Pantanal Project in Paraguay

In 2005 a legacy enabled the creation of a 8,650 acre (3,600 ha) reserve in the grass and wetland habitat of the Chaco-Pantanal. Since then the Chaco-Pantanal reserve has been increased and the project has expanded to include land purchase of Interior Atlantic Forest habitat and land purchase and creation of a brand new reserve in the Dry Chaco.

Restoration Ecology Projects

Rainforest in Ecuador - one of the locations for our restoration ecology projects. Read more about the projects here.

As part of the Carbon Balanced programme the WLT's Restoration Ecology Projects help rehabilitate cleared and degraded habitat. This provides two-fold benefits: regenerating important wildlife habitat and removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. Individuals and businesses can contribute to the WLT's conservation projects by offsetting carbon dioxide emissions that they are unable to avoid.
