World Land Trust Wins Prestigious US Award

Press Release dated: Friday, May 27, 2005

Website of the Week: www.carbonbalanced.org

A relatively small UK conservation charity, World Land Trust (WLT), based in rural Suffolk, has been awarded the prestigious Website of the Week by Smart Communities Network -- a project of the US Department of Energy in Washington DC. (www.sustainable.doe.gov)

The WLT's carbon balanced website, which officially launched this week, addresses the threats to mankind of global warming. It gives everyone, businesses and individuals alike, an opportunity to balance their carbon emissions in three easy stages. By assessing, reducing and ultimately offsetting emissions WLT will purchase and protect tropical rainforest on your behalf as part of its Ecuador Rainforest Project. Often referred to as the 'lungs of the earth' rainforests play a vital role in locking up atmospheric carbon in their vegetation and it has been said that they are acting as the brakes on Global Warming.

The Carbon Balanced section of WLT's website provides background information on the impacts of carbon emissions, helps organizations select an employee to conduct an audit, and provides feedback on reducing and offsetting emissions following the submission of an organization's online audit.

World Land Trust is a registered, conservation charity that has helped purchase and protect over 300,000 acres of threatened wildlife habitats worldwide, including Rainforest, which is used to offset carbon emissions into every day life and help balance the effect of these emissions into the atmosphere.

Sir David Attenborough, a Patron of the World Land Trust, said yesterday, "I welcome WLT's new Carbon-balancing programme as a way of helping put back what we are taking away. I would urge everyone to think deeply about what is important in life and to consider the consequences of daily activities. Balancing your carbon emissions with the WLT means that we are able to put even more back in to our key objectives -- acquiring land for conservation."

World Land Trust Announces Fundraising Partnership with Pickatrail.com and APH

Press Release dated: Wednesday, May 25, 2005

Update February 2008: The World Land Trust and APH are no longer affiliated with Pickatrail.com. Please note that if you book airport parking or airport hotels through Pickatrail, you will NOT be supporting the World Land Trust. For more information see www.worldlandtrust.org/sponsors/pickatrail.htm.

Conservation charity the World Land Trust is delighted to announce the launch of a new fundraising initiative online at responsible travel advice website pickatrail.com.

Travellers who book the airport parking and hotel element of their holiday with Airport Parking and Hotels (APH) via pickatrail.com have the added bonus of protecting areas of rainforest with no additional cost. Everytime a booking with APH is made online at pickatrail.com, APH makes a financial contribution to the World Land Trust. So far bookings through pickatrail.com have raised more than £5,000 saving 200 acres of endangered rainforest, the size of over 110 football pitches.

By working with pickatrail.com and APH, the World Land Trust is encouraging the use of good environmental practice when travelling and helping to reduce carbon emissions.

With carbon emissions becoming an increasing environmental issue and the summer holidays looming, the World Land Trust is also offering a few easy steps and advice to help offset the environmental damage caused by travelling abroad:

STEP 1: book your airport parking and hotels with www.pickatrail.com and Airport Parking and Hotels (APH) will make a donation to the World Land Trust which will help buy and protect areas of rainforest in Ecuador.

STEP 2: drive yourself to the airport and save the cost of a taxi ride or the time and double the fuel consumption of a friend making the return journey to and from the airport when dropping off and collecting (also known as Kiss and Fly).

STEP 3: feel better that you have made the efforts to carbon balance your trip and contributed to the World Land Trust.

World Land Trust is a registered, conservation charity that has helped purchase and protect over 300,000 acres of threatened wildlife habitats worldwide, including Rainforest, which is used to offset carbon emissions into every day life and help balance the effect of these emissions into the atmosphere.
