Rainforest Christmas

Press Release dated: Thursday, December 16, 2004

The World Land Trust is top of the list again with Britain's newspapers. Last year it was the Independent that recommended buying an acre of Rainforest, and this year both the Guardian and the Daily Telegraph have suggested World Land Trust acres. "It's great news for our fund raising, even if it does mean staff working flat out from now until Christmas", said John Burton, CEO of the Trust. However he continued, "We can only really guarantee delivery of the certificates and donor packs for acres ordered over the website by the 16th December, and by phone by the 17th. After that, it's probably a matter of luck, depending on the Royal Mail."

In 2002, it was BBC TV that recommended WLT acres, and the popularity of the WLT's rainforest projects appears undiminished. Supported by Sir David Attenborough and many other well-known conservationists, the WLT has helped save over 300,000 acres in Ecuador, Brazil, Costa Rica the Philippines and Belize. Environment Innovation Awards in Monaco

Press Release dated: Wednesday, December 15, 2004

World Land Trust CEO John Burton was invited as a special guest at the award ceremony of the European Grand Prix for Innovation, which this year was dedicated to the Environment. During the Awards Dinner, John was given the opportunity to describe the Trust's work, and its innovative approach to conservation. In the course of the interview, a recorded phone message from Sir David Attenborough was broadcast to the 150 guests attending the ceremony explaining his support for the work of the WLT, and also his thoughts on the future of conservation.

The awards are sponsored by the Government of Monaco, and this years winners' projects were a solar-powered system for breaking down hazardous wastes, a novel system for manufacturing biodegradable plastics from sugars, and an acoustic absorber that will reduce noise levels in orchestra pits restaurants and other public places.
