A New Reserve for Rainforest

Press Release dated: Thursday, September 18, 2003

The World Land Trust announced today the purchase of the first part of the Christopher Parsons Rainforest. The WLT's partner organisation in Ecuador, the Jocotoco Foundation has purchased (with funds from the WLT) approximately 2.5 square miles of forest, as part of a forest reserve being created in memory of the late Christopher Parsons. The reserve borders the most westerly tributary of the River Amazon, and is home to many rare and interesting species of wildlife.

Chris Parson was a Trustee of the World Land Trust, but had previously headed the BBC Natural History Unit, where he was producer of the world famous TV series 'Life on Earth'. His friend and colleague, Sir David Attenborough, launched the appeal for the memorial forest on July 3, and so far sufficient funds to buy at least 5 square miles have been raised, but it is hoped that even more will be raised.

$30,000 raised for Rainforest Conservation

Press Release dated: Monday, September 08, 2003

Only two months ago Sir David Attenborough launched the World Land Trust's "Christopher Parsons Rainforest Appeal". Chris Parsons, who died in 2002, was not only a Trustee of the WLT, but had been Head of the BBC Natural History Unit, and was the producer of David Attenborough's ground-breaking TV series "Life on Earth". Already over $30,000 has been raised to create a permanent memorial to Chris Parsons, by purchasing Rainforest in Ecuador. The forests purchased will be added to others in the Tapichalaca area Amazonian Ecuador, and provide habitat for numerous endangered species of birds and other wildlife. The area being preserved is believed to have one of the greatest concentrations of orchid species in the world -- with new species still being discovered. The WLT is hoping to add even more land to the reserve - a fitting memorial to the person whose work in TV has inspired so many people, all over the world. Donations can be made online through the WLT's secure server:
