Ranger Silvio: News
Reserve ranger: Silvio
Partner organisation: Fundación Jocotoco
Silvio has been a ranger at Yanacocha for more than seven years. He lives in the nearby Quechua village of Yanacocha and is an excellent local ambassador for nature conservation.
Silvio says about his work: “There are no activities in my job that I don’t enjoy. I think my work is important: to protect the trees, the fauna and flora, and the water. I also like to work with the community because it’s very important that they know about the project – so that together we can conserve the beauty and importance of the forest.”
Silvio is involved in Yanacocha’s forest conservation project (also funded by WLT). Other daily tasks in the reserve include monitoring bird species, maintaining signs and trails, and guiding visitors to the best places for wildlife watching.
