The British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) held their Annual Conference and AGM in Belfast Zoological Gardens in June, where the theme was Partnerships and Participation. Presentations covered the cooperation both within the zoo world and with external organisations.

World Land Trust has been awarded a Gold Medal for “Best Continuous Learning Exhibit” at RHS Chelsea Flower Show for its Altantic Rainforest exhibit.
World Land Trust (WLT) CEO John Burton reports: “At the beginning of May, with funding from some of our corporate supporters, I was able to take Bill Oddie to see the work our project partners are doing to conserve some of what is left of the Atlantic Rainforests of Brazil and Argentina. With around 93% already lost, saving the remainder is vital.”
The research programme run by REGUA, World Land Trust’s project partners in Brazil, is continuing to compile increasingly important data. PhD student Luciana Fucinatto is currently studying amphibians on the reserve, and Jorge Bizarro, a Post Doctorate student, will co-ordinate research on Lepidoptera at REGUA.
