How does this work?

What are news feeds?

News feeds, also known as RSS feeds, are similar to ordinary web pages, but are created for machines rather than for humans. By subscribing to a news feed you can see when a website has been updated without needing to visit the site. The feeds are read by a piece of software - a news reader, which displays the news to you as and when the feed is updated.

Choosing a news reader

You can choose between news readers that allow you to download news updates to your computer, or web browser-based news readers, which let you view your subscriptions online.

How to subscribe to a news feed

Once you have chosen a news reader, you can subscribe to a news feed by clicking the links above. Depending on which news reader you use you may then be able to drag and drop the URL (web address) of the feed into the news reader. Alternatively you may need to cut and past the address into the new feed section of the news reader.
