World Land Trust (WLT) supported Steve Backshall’s Wild World tour with a foyer display at Salisbury City Hall on Friday 13 November 2015.

During the evening, Steve described many of the close encounters he’s had during 16 years of wildlife presenting. The performance included film footage of his expeditions all over the world, and demonstrated that getting close to some of the world’s most lethal animals can be risky business.

With at least half the audience aged under 14, and with a sprinkling of grandparents, the event showed that Steve’s talks are popular with wildlife enthusiasts of all ages. During question time, children in the audience asked Steve a range of questions on the scary creatures he’s encountered, with one child asking Steve for tips on becoming a naturalist.

Steve is currently championing WLT’s Forests in the Sky Appeal, which was the focus of fundraising efforts during Big Match Fortnight (1-15 October 2015). In the first half of 2015 Steve Backshall raised nearly £50,000 for WLT; the funds have been used to save an area of rainforest in Colombia.

WLT’s foyer stand provided information about WLT’s conservation work, saving threatened habitats worldwide.
