Help Make Jabujicaba the Movie and support World Land Trust (WLT)

Voices for Nature entered Virgin Business’ VOOM 2016 competition to fund Jabujicaba the film and support conservation work.

Jabujicaba is an eco-thriller novel set in Brazil’s precious rainforests, where the country is bankrupt and The Amazon is up for auction.

The competition allows individuals and businesses to pitch ideas, which are then voted on, with the chance of winning a share of £1million of funding. The finalists’ pitches are presented directly to Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson.

Proceeds from the novel Jabujicaba support World Land Trust’s work in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest, through WLT’s Brazilian conservation partner Reserva Ecológica De Guapiaçu (REGUA).

Voting for the competition closed on 23 May 2016. Voices for Nature did brilliantly, finishing in the top ten out of 750 entrants in the crowdfunder category and achieving 671 public votes. They raised £14,000 for their rainforest movie, theatre and debates, as well as for funding on-the-ground rainforest conservation in Brazil's Atlantic Rainforest and Amazon.

Many organisations supported Voices for Nature's entry, including WLT, Isle of Wight Zoo and Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust. More support came from well-known names including the Body Shop Foundation, RSPB and Cambridge Conservation Initiative.

Leading academics at Oxford and Cambridge universities rallied around the project, which is all about engaging the general public with conservation and inspiring action to protect Brazil’s rainforests.

A real ground swell of support is now gathering momentum to make Jabujicaba the rainforest eco-thriller movie.
