Sought-after ceramic artist Maureen Minchin creates exclusive collection for Blue-throated Macaw Appeal

Bolivian Wildlife Collection

Highly sought-after ceramic artist Maureen Minchin has created a unique collection of earthenware pottery inspired by Bolivian wildlife to raise funds for World Land Trust’s (WLT) Blue-throated Macaw Appeal.

Five of these exclusive, one-of-a-kind items were released on an online auction by WLT on Wednesday 9 August and have already received attention from collectors of Maureen Minchin’s work.

The Bolivian Wildlife collection includes a jug decorated with Bolivian birdlife, a small dish depicting a Golden-Tailed Sapphire Hummingbird, a small bowl featuring the Blue-throated Macaw, a large bowl illustrating mammal and birdlife and a chocolate cup and saucer with macaws and waterbirds depicted in Minchin’s unique style.

Maureen's work is inspired by nature and created in a beautiful and remote part of Argyll, where she lives and works. Her pots are thrown in terracotta clay, sprigs and handles attached and then dipped in a cream slip. Once a pot is firm the slip is drawn into with a sharp tool and then left to dry. After being fired at 950°C the pots are decorated with underglaze colours, glazed and gloss-fired to 1140°C under light reduction.
