Green Apple Award won by Nixwax, World Land Trust supporter 

World Land Trust (WLT) is pleased to report that the Green Apple Award has been awarded to the Trust's corporate supporter Nikwax, manufacturers of water-proofing and maintenance products for outdoor clothing, footwear and equipment.

Nikwax was awarded the bronze award for "environmental best practice in manufacturing" by The Green Organisation, an independent environmental organisation dedicated to promoting environmental best practice.

Nikwax was given the award for its environmental ethos, which includes redesigning the company's factories to reduce gas consumption, deriving 90% of the energy requirement from renewable sources, training employees to be environmentally conscious and offsetting its unavoidable carbon dioxide emissions through the World Land Trust.

Nikwax and its sister company Páramo, an outdoor clothing retailer, not only offset emissions associated with the current year but also those for the last 10 years - but their contribution does not stop there. Nikwax and Páramo then match the funds they allocate to carbon offsetting with an equivalent donation to urgent land purchase projects in Ecuador. Nikwax also contributes 2% of the sales from Skitostop, a mosquito repellent, to WLT.
