Justwalkers raise over £5,000 for conservation
We have now received all the funds raised through JustWalk and the total has topped the £5,000 mark. We mentioned earlier that Ben Beaton and Maria Furhrmann received matching funding from their place of work. Ben and Maria's final fundraising total came to £2026.00 before Gift Aid, and this was matched by AMEC Earth & Environmental (UK) Ltd . WLT thanks both the walkers and their employers for this wonderful demonstration of support which will enable us to save threatened habitats on their behalf.
Seven Summits Challenge for Charity
Simon Biltcliffe is the Managing Director of Webmart, which is a WLT company supporter. He has set himself the task of completing the incredible Seven Summits Challenge, climbing the highest mountain on each continent in turn. He's made 4 of the 7 climbs so far and in each case he is raising sponsorship for charities . He chose to support WLT on his climb of Denali, in Alaska and he and his sponsors have raised enough to save over 35 acres of threatened habitat, which, together with the Gift Aid we've been able to collect, means that he has now exceeded his target figure of £2,000.

Other fundraisers are taking part in equally inventive and challenging events to help raise money for conservation projects:
- Two WLT supporters are walking from Land's End to John O'Groats to raise money. Last heard of eating cream teas in Devon, judging from their website, www.richandrobsridiculousramble.com.
- Philip Pelling is preparing himself, and his nine teams, for the Little Big Walk from Winchester to Portsmouth on 16th August - and for him that's only the start, as you will discover if you go to www.justgiving.com/philippelling
- Charlotte Haldane and Rebecca Branch are preparing for their climb up Mount Kilimanjaro - dressed as trees!
- Ruth Miller and Alan Davies have just caught up with Kelly Jacobs, our Education officer, at the WLT's Brazilian project on the REGUA reserve. Progress on their Biggest Twitch - a year-long birding expedition - can be seen at www.thebiggesttwitch.com
- David Scott, and his wife Rachel, have over the past couple of years raised more than £5,000 for the WLT, and are showing no sign of stopping; Dave has just completed a half-marathon for the Trust. The couple recently become parents to a baby girl so we expect they will be kept busy for the time being - many congratulations from all at WLT!
What do all these amazing people have in common? They are using personalised pages on Justgiving.com to raise funds for WLT. It is a great way to let your sponsors know how you are doing and encourages others to get involved as well, so if you are planning an event to raise funds for a charity we definitely recommend you do the same.
