Guyana Offers its Rainforest to Britain for Protection

The government of Guyana, a former British colony in South America, has said it is willing to hand over the control of its entire standing forest to a British-led, international body in return for development aid and assistance needed to achieve a green economy.

Sainsbury's to Ban Unsustainable Palm Oil

The supermarket chain Sainsbury's has joined the likes of ASDA and Body Shop in pledging to phase out the use of palm oil from unsustainable sources in its products.

New Reserve to Protect Congo Rainforest and Bonobos

The Bonobo Conservation Initiative (BCI) together with the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) recently announced the creation of a massive new reserve (11,803 square miles), which will protect rainforest of critical importance to the endangered Bonobo, an ape species found only in the DRC.

Palm Oil Shipment Blocked by Greenpeace

In a bid to get the Indonesian government to stop forests being cut down to create palm oil plantations, Greenpeace stopped a tanker containing over 30,000 tonnes of palm oil from leaving an Indonesian port.
