Amphibians at risk as killer fungus becomes airborne

Amphibian populations are being devastated by a fungus that researchers fear is a relatively new disease. Worse, is not only is the fungus spread by infected water, it is also thought to be transmitted as spores carried on the wind.

Elephant reserve dropped for mining firms

Authorities in Eastern India have dropped plans to set up 2 new elephant reserves. The decision has outraged conservationists who say this will threaten wildlife, while helping mining firms in the area.

War is a blessing in disguise for Orangutans

War in Indonesia's Aceh province has prevented logging firms and palm oil estates from entering one the world's richest expanses of rainforest, thus helping critically endangered Orangutans to at least for now flourish.

Beluga Whales under threat in the Arctic shores

Scientists say that Solovetsky Island on Russia's White Sea in the only place in the world where Belugas come so close to land. Described as one of Russia's national treasures, Belugas will be fighting for survival as the Arctic develops and shipping, energy projects and pollution threaten their natural habitat.
