BBC Wildlife chooses UK's top 20 conservationists

Latest World Land Trust News

Prince Charles, David Attenborough and Norman Moore are the UK's most influential living conservationists according to BBC Wildlife Magazine.

In the July issue John Burton, CEO of the World Land Trust, writes about the daunting task of helping select the wildlife heroes for the magazine's top 20 list. BBC Wildlife asked for nominations from its advisory board and readers and used these to create a list of more than 80 candidates. From this list a judging panel, chaired by John, chose their top 20, a task made more difficult by the fact that they could not even agree on what constitutes a wildlife conservationist. Only 6 of John's personal favourites made it to the final top 20 list, which also includes Chris Baines, James Lovelock and David Bellamy.

By compiling the top 20 list, BBC Wildlife wants to raise awareness of how the natural world can be preserved and celebrate those who make this possible. The July issue of magazine is on sale 7th June.
