Wildlife Trust of India Launch Campaign Against Tiger Trafficking

Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), WLT's partner organisation for the Elephant Corridor Project, has joined forces with seven other countries, including USA, UK, China and Russia, to launch a Campaign Against Tiger Trafficking. According to WTI, Tiger populations have dropped from 100,000 to around 5,000 in two centuries. India is one of only two Asian countries with a population of more than 500 tigers, but between 1994 and 2003, 684 tigers have been known to be killed in India and the situation is getting worse. The campaign aims to "build, inform and support alliances of conservationists, governments, traditional medicine users and religious groups to stop trade in tiger parts".
