Orang-utans killed for illegal trade 


Latest News Headlines

Orang-utans are under severe threat due to intensive logging of their habitat and there are only 40,000 to 55,000 individuals remaining. Habitat destruction is not the only threat facing these primates, however: Around 1000 orang-utans are killed each year so that their babies can be traded as pets, according to a report by WWF. Baby orang-utans are kept as household status symbols in Indonesia, or are used in the entertainment industry.
