Tsunami damaged coral recovering

Coral reefs hit by the Indian Ocean tsunami on December 26 appear to be much less severely damaged than expected. And according to a team of scientists from Coral Cay Conservation, damaged reefs seem capable of rapid regeneration despite the severity of the tsunami. The scientists measured damage to 28 km of reef in an area affected by the wave and concluded that even if all coral reefs damaged by the tsunami were to die, only 8% of the coral coverage would be lost.
