Logging suspended in Philippines

Latest News Headlines

Nearly 1000 people are thought to have died in the several severe storms hitting the Philippines over the last few weeks. The impact of the storms may have been worsened by logging, with the removal of trees making the landscape more prone to land slides. President Gloria Arroyo has now suspended all logging; no more tree felling permits will be issued while the effects of the storms are being reviewed.
