New forest reserves in Brazil 


Latest News Headlines 

Two new reserves, covering more than 2 million hectares of rainforest, are to be created in Brazil. President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva has signed two official decrees, creating the extractive reserves (RESEX) in the Amazon.

The RESEX status means that the communities living in the reserves will be able to continue using the natural resources of the forest sustainably, while individuals and companies illegally occupying community areas will be removed.
