Press release: Credit Crunch Proves Bitter Sweet for the World Land Trust
Latest World Land Trust news: A third of all charities have been forced to make staff redundant due to the slowing economy, according to Third Sector, the main news source for Charities. However the World Land Trust is clearly bucking the trend, with a rise in donations of 26% for the year 2008. The Trust also feels that every penny donated will now go further due to the worldwide fall in land prices which will enable the purchase and protection of more critically endangered habitat across the globe. WLT-US Project News: World's first protected area for the Blue-throated Macaw
Latest World Land Trust news: The world's first protected area for the Blue-throated Macaw, a critically endangered species with a population estimated at just 300 birds, has been created in Bolivia, thanks to Bolivian Conservation organization Asociación Armonía, American Bird Conservancy and WLT-US. Vacancy for Restoration Ecology Officer (full-time)
Latest World Land Trust News There is currently a vacancy for a Restoration Ecology Officer to join the World Land Trust team at the WLT office in Halesworth. This is a full-time position to assiste the Restoration Ecology Team in the development and management of the Carbon Balanced programme. The deadline for applications is 20th November.
Projects News: Possible new species of cat spotted in Ecuador
Latest World Land Trust news: A photo sent to the Trust shows what is thought to be a new species of cat, still to be described, which was first seen two years ago in Peru. The Jorupe Reserve, where the photo was taken, is close to the border with Peru and this would be the first known sighting in Ecuador. Learn more: A New Cat Species for Fundación Jocotoco?
Orang-utan Appeal update: A third of the funding needed has been raised
Latest World Land Trust news: In the first three months since the Orang-utan Appeal was launched, we received tremendous support for this vital project, raising over a third of the funding needed. This has enabled negotiations for the land to move to the next level and WLT now has until the end of the year to raise the remainder of funds needed. Free rainforest teaching resource on CD
Latest World Land Trust news: Learning about Rainforests is a CD based teaching resource that is aimed at Key Stage 1 and 2 students, packed with information, activity sheets and two case study posters aimed at students and a separate pack and PowerPoint presentation for teachers. Projects News: New land purchase in Mexico
Latest World Land Trust news: With financial support from the Farrington Trust, the World Land Trust has been able to fund the purchase of 741 acres (300 ha) of threatened Oak forest in Mexico. Learn more: New land purchase in Mexico
Upload a wildlife video clip and win prize
Latest World Land Trust news: A new, interactive video section has been added to WLT's multimedia website, www.wildlifefocus.org, enabling people to upload their own video clips. As an incentive to get people uploading we will be giving away a pack of World Land Trust Christmas cards to the first 10 users who upload a video. Green Issues: How to stop overfishing
Latest additions to the World Land Trust website: "I read a short item in The Ecologist this month (October issue) about Greenpeace dumping 3 tonne blocks of granite in the German North Sea to foul the fishing tackle of bottom trawlers.
