A veterinarian, with a special interest in avians. ‘My practice has been devoted solely to birds for the last 8 years, and prior to that I was a wildlife veterinarian and had a mixed practice for birds and reptiles. I took a year off to formally study Scientific Illustration at the University of California in Santa Cruz, California. I have worked as a traditional illustrator, in dot-com, digital and other media. I am an avid birder, of the old-fashioned, non-twitching variety. I am a member of a number of conservation entities including Artists for Conservation and several avian veterinary committees concerned with wild bird conservation efforts. I have worked with the highly endangered Kakapo in New Zealand. Currently I am participating in the Distance Learning Diploma program with the Society for Botanical Artists, based in UK. I have had to retire from hands-on veterinary practice due to chemotherapy, surgery and recovery from breast cancer, but I remain active in consultations and developing my artistic endeavours. My joys include donating art work to various causes, learning new art techniques, communicating with the parrots that share my home, developing a backyard wildlife oasis, and keeping my bird-like husband entertained.’
