Martin Woodcock has been a bird and wildlife painter since 1974, when he turned a hobby - albeit a passionate one - into a profession. He has illustrated many ornithological guidebooks and family monographs, and painted virtually all the colour plates for the seven-volume definitive work The Birds of Africa. His paintings are in many collections in the U.K. and abroad, and he has been a member of the Society of Wildlife Artists since 1986. Since finishing the Birds of Africa illustrations he has been painting a variety of pictures, ranging from pure landscapes to detailed bird portraits in oil on board. The sketchbooks from field trips around his home in north Norfolk - and also much further afield - provide the material and inspiration for these paintings.
