Carbon Balanced meets the challenge of climate change through projects that both offset carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and conserve biodiversity. It is run by the World Land Trust, a UK-registered charity that has been helping local organisations since 1989 to secure and protect key tropical habitats - rainforest, drier tropical forest and other critical habitats sustaining endangered species and rural economies.
The restoration ecology projects run by the World Land Trust under the Carbon Balanced programme therefore deliver much more than a measurable offset for CO2 emissions. We should all be doing what we can to reduce the emissions that we are responsible for, then consider offsetting those we cannot eliminate.
"I
welcome WLT's new Carbon-balancing programme as a way of helping put back
what we are taking away... Balancing your carbon emissions with the WLT
means that we are able to put even more back in to our key objectives
– acquiring land for conservation."
David Attenborough, Patron of the WLT
