Hi,
This world of ours is in a fairly appalling mess. We have known this for quite
a long time, but some thirty-five years of knowledge hasn't really slowed down
the destruction of sustainable lifestyles, tropical forests, coral reefs and other
seriously threatened habitats. BUT THAT IS NO REASON TO OPT OUT. Now that we have
the knowledge each of us has a responsibility to do our bit to do what we can
to halt the destruction. That is why I am a Trustee of World Land Trust. Although
we have only been in existence for just over ten years I believe we have achieved
a tremendous amount. Already WLT has helped purchase and protect 250,000 acres
of tropical forest, along with all the wildlife that depend on it, in Belize.
I have been there myself and seen what has happened to the bits that weren't bought
up – they have been flattened to make way for agriculture. WLT has also
been responsible for saving several thousand acres of wonderful forest in Costa
Rica and the pristine island of Danjugan, with its tropical forests and important
fringing coral reef, in the Philippines. And, at the moment we have our eyes firmly
focused on another threatened wilderness area near to Valdes Peninsula in Patagonia.
Opportunities for saving real forests in real places exist in Ecuador and the
Amazon Basin too - all we need to make these projects reality is your support
and commitment. Please visit the rest of the web site to find out more. Although
WLT cannot claim to be Saving the World it can certainly claim to be SAVING PRECIOUS
CORNERS OF THE WORLD. Just £25 will really help us purchase,
protect and save an acre of threatened habitat. I have pledged my support
and do all I can to spread the word will you do the same? I look forward
to hearing from you and thank you for taking the trouble to find our web site.
Sincerely,
David
Bellamy, former Trustee of WLT (1992 - 2002). watch
