How it all began. On 8 May, 1989, the late Gerald Durrell (see page 15), and his wife Lee, flew over from Jersey to launch the Programme for Belize, at the London Butterfly House.
The Launch was sponsored by Tate & Lyle, and Today Newspaper presented a cheque for £25,000 towards
the programme.

Launch of Rainforest Action Costa Rica. Bruce Coleman (former WLT Trustee), Andrew Kendall, the WLT Project Representative in Costa Rica, with Dr Mario Boza (a former Minister of Natural Resources in Costa Rica, and keen conservationist). Here they are seen discussing the Central America Biological Corridor. This meeting took place on 15 July, 1994 at the Royal Geographical Society in London, and was sponsored
by Enterprise Plants; British Airways (Assisting Conservation) provided free flights from the USA for Dr Boza
and Andrew Kendall.

On 30 June, 1994 the Trust launched its Authors & Artists for Conservation scheme. David Gower gave the keynote speech and later agreed to become the Trust's Patron. |

The Wyld Court Rainforest Centre, at Hampstead Norreys, near Newbury, Berkshire, is the conservation and education centre of the Trust and attracts visitors from all over the world. It also acts as a 'window' in the UK for WLT projects.
