Your Chance to own an original Bruce Pearson painting. Paintings by Bruce Pearson are highly valued by collectors, and he is well known for working from living animals whenever possible. These drawings are part of a unique record of the world's rarest mammals

Original Illustrations from the
Collins Guide to the Rare Mammals of the World.

The book was published in 1988, by Collins. The text was written by John and Vivien Burton (of the World Land Trust), and the illustrations are by Bruce Pearson. The Public Lending Rights have been donated to the World Land Trust through its Authors and Artists for Conservation scheme.

Bruce Pearson donated the majority of the original plates to the World Land Trust for sale in order to raise funds for the Trust's work. Many of the species he illustrated are to be found in the reserves that the Trust's funds have helped purchase. A selection of the paintings, framed, are displayed in the entrance lobby to the World Conservation Monitoring Centre in Cambridge, England and others are in the art collection of Massachusetts Audubon Society. Bruce Pearson is one of the best known wildlife artists in Britain, and has made and appeared in several TV films; he is currently the President of the Society of Wild Life Artists.

Bruce Pearson's original paintings were exhibited in the Natural History Museum, London in 1987 to coincide with the book. One of the reasons for the exhibition being held there was that many of species were so rare, that Bruce had to do the drawings from skins in the museum's collection.

The web site (see Plate Collection ) shows the plates that are still available for sale; the plates were scanned from the published book, and are at relatively low resolution. All the originals have a picture size of approximately 28 x 42 cm, and some have cream mounts. Each plate is individually signed by the artist.

While every effort is made to keep this web site up to date, prospective donors should be aware that some paintings may be unavailable.
