Le WLT cherche à préserver les forêts tropicales du monde, ainsi que d'autres habitats, biologiquement importants qui sont menacés de destruction/de disparition.

Jaguar, Belize En contribuant à l'achat definitif du terrain, la fondation peut sauver les forêts tropicales et l'environnement nécessaire aux espêces sauvages y vivant. Et avec des projets de protection et redéveloppement, la condition de vie des habitants locaux peut être améliorée, et ainsi le futur des autres parties de la forêt assuré.

Le WLT fut initialement fondé pour collecter des fonds pour la programme de Bélize et à depuis réussi à regrouper plus de 2 millions de dollars pour l'achat d'un terrain et le financement de la recherche sur le redéveloppement des forêts. En 1996, tous les emprunts ont été remboursés et le WLT a fondé Friends of Bélize pour ceux que la protection à long terme de la vie sauvage et des resources naturelles de Bélize interessent. Il est aujourd'hui possible de visiter les forêts appartenant au PFB et de séjourner au Centre de Recherche de La Milpa (auparavant Rio Bravo).
