World Land Trust Track Record
Success StoriesSince 1989, with support from public donations, corporate supporters, government and foundation grants, the World Land Trust has helped protect over 400,000 acres of steaming tropical forest, colourful coral reefs, arid coastal steppe, and ancient beech woodland. Programme for BelizeWLT’s first project was a great success, raising over US$ 2-million for the purchase and protection of 250,000 acres of tropical forest – an area 4% of the county. The land purchase in Belize is now part of the largest single tract of forest left in the whole of Central America. Through the ongoing commitment of the local organisation, Danjugan was awarded “Best Managed Coral Reef in the Philippines” in 2002. Read more about the Philippines Reef & Rainforest Project Rainforest Action Costa RicaCreating a blueprint for sustainable development, this community-based project explored methods of sustainable forestry, using mobile sawmills to reduce damage to the surrounding forests, whilst generating and income simultaneously. The Trust helped purchase 5,000 acres in the Esquinas Sector, which is now incorporated into Corcovado National Park.
