Conservation Projects by the World Land Trust

Saved: 400,000 acres of wildlife habitats

Since its foundation in 1989 supporters of the World Land Trust (WLT) have helped fund the purchase and protection of over 400,000 acres (162,000 ha) of threatened wildlife habitats, working through our overseas project partners. You can help us save even more by supporting our land purchase & protection projects.

Our partners and projects

WLT has Projects Partners all over the world (see map), with whom we work closely to protect reserves:

Many of the project areas have reserves that can be visited.

Other conservation projects:

Carbon offsets that protect wildlife habitats

The Carbon Balanced Programme is part of WLT's restoration ecology projects, and enables individuals and businesses to offset any carbon emissions they cannot reduce or avoid and at the same time support wildlife conservation.

Zoos and Aquariums supporting conservation

The Wild Spaces Programme enables zoos and aquariums to get involved in in situ wildlife conservation.

The WLT has also helped establish a national park in Lebanon.

Other Projects by the WLT

The WLT is also involved in educational and other projects not involving land purchase and protection. These projects include:

  • Books for Conservation Programme, supported by the Natural History Book Service, providing essential text-books and field guides to conservation organisations in developing countries, free of charge.
  • Diploma course in Conservation and Project Administration, developed in partnership with the University of East Anglia.
  • Focus on Forests, an educational resource for students available as free printed booklets as well as a website.
  • Intern Programme, giving recent graduates valuable experience of project development and conservation management.
  • Study Tours Programme, providing tailor-made training for senior conservation managers from around the world.
  • Wildlife Focus, a multimedia website with wildlife webcam, videos and virtual tours of nature reserves.

How we select which projects to support

The WLT supports a relatively small number of projects to ensure their success and impeccable management. For the same reason the projects we support have been chosen using stringent project selection criteria.
